I Know, It's Hard To Believe But...?!

Question: I'm a 16 year old girl and I'm very athletic. I play tennis and I'm a swimmer.

My whole life, I've been very small and thin, but not in a gross way. I'm currently 16, 5'8'', and 110 pounds. Is this normal? I know I have a VERY fast metabolism because I'm Italian and I eat like one! Lol I love food, but is my weight a problem? And I only have 3% body fat. I'm pretty muscular in my legs and kind of my arms too. Is anyone else like this or do you know someone like this?

I'm really NOT self concious at all, but I'm just worried health wise. Thanks!

You sound like a gal with an active lifestyle as well as a good head on her shoulders! Good for you~ Just continue staying active & eating without too much concern..however, you may want to include some high protien bars, drinks or such to your regular eating routine & adding a multi-vitamin, these few things will ensure better health & due to increased metabolism(as you claim) you will be helping your body to maintain nutrients it may generally need. Remember, you are still a growing gal....yup thats right...& your body will continue to go through many various changes...including hormonal. Take care~

At 5'8 your ideal weight would be 140 lbs so 110 lbs is a bit on the light side especially as musles weigh a lot more than flabby fat.

Perhaps you have a very small frame with little width and not much thickness or depth.

If you were really underweight you would probably feel weak and tired all the time but you seem to be very energetic with all your sporting activities and as you eat plenty and love food you are probably OK even though the height and weight tables suggest otherwise.

Perhaps these height and weight tables should not be taken too seriously. Apparently some gym instructors tell you not to take too much notice of these charts and tables.
