Why do your eyes "sting" before you cry?!

Question: I always wondered why you get that stinging/burning feeling right before your eyes water.

Answers: I always wondered why you get that stinging/burning feeling right before your eyes water.

I think it's a muscle reaction to the act of crying. Your muscles work with the tear ducts and generate the process of allowing water from your body to surface to your tear ducts and eventually out of your eye. So, when that happens your muscles work to create the action, generating the "sting" that you feel before the tears come.

well i dony know :(

my eyes don't sting before I cry, maybe you should speak with an opthalmologist.

Do you wear contacts? I used to when I was ypunger. I didn't take care of them like I should have and as a result now have scarring on the inside of my eyelids. My eyes now burn!! when my eyes water or right when I begin to cry. It usually subsides after a few minutes. You should see an eye doctor
