My friend stopped smoking but of course is gaining weight...?!


Question: what can he sub. instead of nicorette which he is using. I told him when he feels like smoking a cig. he should drink a whole bottle of water. sound crazy?

That is a great idea. By the time he gets threw the bottle of water the craving should be gone.

Having tic-tacs or similar helps, but placing something in one's hand to mouth is also a definite help...maybe having toothpic(flavored is better/like cinnamon)...anything to put in his mouth similating the 'habit' he is so accustomed to from smoking...Also a very very important thing is to 'change_routine"..it will also increase his chance of remaining a non-smoker...kudos!

oh boy... where to start. ummm a great substitute is exercise. Reason being is your are trying to rid all those chemicals and toxins out of the lungs, and exercise will actually get rid of the craving... the signal that is sent to your brain that you need a cig, water like you said is awesome. and the most effective. also... sunflower seeds, and they are loaded i believe with b vitamins... carrots..celery..but I really liked the sunflower seeds when I quit although personally. the best thing I did was sleep. Listen to your body. My body wanted to sleep for 3/4 of the day the first couple of days and I did it with the nicoderm patches. Slapped on a nicoderm patch went to sleep went to the gym went to sleep went to work went to sleep. I know that sounds crazy... but if you do things like that durnign the quitting process you actually dont gain as much weight your either sleeping or exercising... been there.. good luck!!!
