Do you feel that doctors rely too much on tests and not what is presented to the!

Question: Sure, a blood test may say one thing but then another follow up test says another but the patient themself tries to tell the doctor the rest of the symptoms and those are shrugged off because they don't match the blood work stats...

Why shouldn't a doctor try to listen and help with the patient's symptoms instead of bloodwork?

I have all the symptoms of a thyroid disorder, my doctor says that because I am on the edge of normal they wont treat it, but I went to an out of network doctor and they gave me medication for it and it stopped my hair loss and weight gain and itchy skin, yet even with that the original doctor refuses to acknowledge anything is wrong and refuses to help me.

I cant switch doctors easily as insurance is a problem and out of pocket can just dig us a hole right now as finances are tight.

What to do?

I do think that some doctors don't listen to paitients well at all. How they stay in business is beyond me. We are after all paying them hundreds of thousands of dollars to help us cure whatever ailment we have.

I have had the same cough for about 14 yrs and my doctor could never diagnose it. He sent me here and there to do this test and that test and nothing was ever found. But yet, I am smart enough to search the web and find some answeres on my own. I am not getting paid $100,000/yr but I suppose I should since I did find an answer to my cough.

Is your doctor the ONLY physician at the medical office you go to? I doubt he is by himself and you could prolly request a diff physician if this one doesn't meet your needs. I would be straightforward with him and let him know that you sought a second opinion and that you are doing better and it was no thanks to him. Not saying you have to be rude about it, but stand up for yourself. His job entails more than just diagnosing an issue and perscribing medications. If he can't meet the needs of each individual person, he needs to get outta the business.

your doctor is caught between a rock and a hard place hon, his boss probably won't let him prescribe the meds you need without the supporting blood values. This happens all the time, the insurance (the real bosses) won't cover the treatment if the lab values don't support the symptoms. So, don't blame your doc, blame his bosses. I'd switch insurance if I were you.

sue him for malpractice. Oh yeah they have to follow insurance protocal as well.
