Does Nyquil screw you up???!

Question: I have always relied on Nyquil when I've had colds. I loved the stuff - puts me right to sleep and I'd wake up rested.

I haven't taken it, however, in a few years.

Now, I've got a cold. I took Nyquil Monday night and was awake in bed for 6 straight hours, with waking nightmares about Cystic Fibrosis (which I don't have but recently learned a lot about). I blamed it on the cold and the amount of coughing and nose-blowing I was doing. Then I took some regular cough syrup DM and slept a good 3 hours.

Then last night I took it again and it was worse. I took a little more than suggested (like an extra teaspoon, not much) because I didn't sleep the night before.

OH MY GOD I was paranoid. I thought I had some awful disease and was going to die. I cried and fretted, it was bizarre. I didn't sleep at all, and finally it wore off, I felt sane and took some regular cough medicine again and slept another four hours.

Any similar experiences or do you know why that happened?

I can not take Nyquil because it makes me feel like I want to run through a brick wall. It keeps me awake, makes me full of energy... and that is not good when you have a cold or flu.

Some of those kinds of medicions like Nyquil can make you sleep but some itmes they canm make you restless and awake. Taking more than is recommended in not going to make it work any better. You can get sicker from an overdose of the medicine. If the Nyquil is keeping you awake then try something else like Tylonal liquid, that seems to work for me. they have a day itme and a night time formula

I have to agree with Steph. Don't overdose. Doesn't do any good. AND the formula could have been changed since last time you used it and had good results.

Medicine often changes without notice to the general public. Some good cold remedies have been removed because kids discovered that if they OD on over the counter meds they can get a high.

My son did that.

Well, if NyQuil no longer works for you - then the obvious - use something else.

:)

Drinking a whole bottle of NyQuil or Robitussin will mess you up. It is called "Robo-Tripping" . Most of those meds have Pseudo-Ephedrine in them for cough, but that is also the main ingredient for meth. If you are having side effects either stop taking it or lower your dose
