Not too long. But you can rehydrate yourself in the meantime:

Mix 2 teaspoons of sugar and half a teaspoon of salt in a glass of water. It tastes gross, but it rehydrates you super-fast and is used in hospitals as a rehydratant.

couple days

When I had it from food poisoning it was for 24 hours.

a day or 2

It depends when they're rehydrated again it can be between a few hours to a a day or two, best bet is to start drinking fluids but not too much and then go tomorrow and see what happens, the more dehydrated you are the longer you'll be on a IV drip...

when I was really sick, they put me on an IV until all the fluid went into my body & then since I was still dehydrated - they did it again. It probably took an hour.
I know for younger people they would hospitalize for 1-2 days, just depends on age / severity.

Not long. Unless u are pregnant I would think until u have been given enough fluids. Dont worry it's a simple thing u should be in and out the same day. Then they would proberly keep an eye on you to make sure you dont become dehydrated again.

Good Luck

It really depends on how severe the dehydration is.

I have had to go to the doc before because of dehydration, and they have just given me a couple of units of fluids right there in the office. I have never had to be admitted for dehydration.

One of my girlfriends was severely dehydrated when she was pregnant because she was vomiting so much. She went in around lunchtime to be checked, and she was admitted and had to stay overnight, and was released the next day, late in the afternoon. Her problem was more severe than mine, and they needed to keep her for observation because she was pregnant.

The longest I have ever heard of someone being in the hospital for simple dehydration is one night.

Unless yours is really severe, they may not even keep you over night. They may just give you fluids in the office, or as an outpatient. Either way, don't worry too much about it. It doesn't really hurt (there are things that they put in IVs which burn going in, but the stuff they use for dehydration does not burn or sting), but your arm does get cold from all that fluid going in (it's cooler than body temperature, so it makes your arm cold), and it makes you have to pee a lot. Generally, for dehydration, they will monitor input (the units from the IV), and output (how much you are peeing), but even that's not a big deal.

Try not to worry about it. You will do fine.
