Count down from 10 before surgery?!
Question: Why does the doctor have you count down from 10 prior to going unconscious during a surgical operation. The obvious reason would be to make sure you're actually asleep, but even then how do they know you're fully under?

They have heart monitors... Blood pressure monitors... and sometimes even brain wave monitors...
The counting thing tells them that they are giving you enough gas...
If you COULD talk you would... So they know when to cut it off...
They have a dozen ways to tell that your out...
Don't worry about it... The chance of you being awake is VERY VERY VERY VERY small... Your more likely to be eaten by a shark in the Mississippi River then to be awake durring surgery...
It helps to keep the Patient Calm before they go to sleep
Its just to give them an audio clue as to when you are not conscious enough to continue. They dont begin the proceedure as soon as you stop counting. They actually paralyse your body first and work you onto a ventillator.
i only made it to like 7 or 4. i think it was around there.

thye dont know if ur fully asleep.. bc i counted down to like 3 and just closed my eyes.. and it was like nothing i feel asleep but I SWEAR i woke up in the middle of it.. but i could have been dreaming it was weird bc the dream looked exactly like the room so i think i woke up! however within a couple seconds my eyes were closing and next i woke up i was in recovery..they have u count down to keep u calm and relaxed however most times it doesnt work.. the next time i went 4 surgery i stayed awake.. 8 needles but i think if i had the choice i would go either way! the only thing is i dont want to ever have to go 4 a SERIOUs surgery and wake up in it!! so idk if tehy ever know ur fully asleep is a guess they watch u and if u move they give u more!
