How come it was easy for me to quit smoking?!

Question: But not my mom?
Okay well, I started smoking at age 12 (ciggs) and I quit easily at age 14 cause I realized what I was doing was stupid and bad for my health.
(My mom knew, I told her.)
And I asked my mom not to smoke in the house, and she doesn't she go outside.. but she said she'd quit, but she recently told me she can't but she'll cut down.
But I dont get it? How come It's so easy for me to quit but not her?
I was smoking so much more than her..(when I was younger and ignorant)
i guess, I put much more effort in it, but still I dont understand.
If it helps, I think shes been smoking since she was 16, shes 49 now.

First, congratulations for quitting! :)

People smoke for different reasons. So, stopping might be more difficult for others.

If you smoked because you wanted to experiment but your mom smoked as a way to avoid weight gain, it'd be reasonable to expect that you'd have an easier time quitting than your mother.

Also, some people smoke to get out of the house. It's accepted that smokers be permitted to go outside and take a break. Non-smokers don't have that luxury.

Bottom line: try to figure out WHY your mom smokes. Discovering the reason why she smokes can help her quit and explain why it's so difficult for her.

Good luck! :)

Its alot easyer to quit when you have not been smoking for that long plus the longer you smoke the more you depend on it and your body craves it. your mom has smoked for 30 years, it takes alot to get over cravings and just the habit of smoking. Your lucky you realized so young how bad it really is.
