Hair embedded in toe?!

Question: Hey everyone.

I was doing sport at school (barefoot, on a field) and my toe started hurting. I looked on the underside of it and saw that there was a piece of hair embedded in my toe. It looked like the hair on my head, but it was only about 1 centimetre long. I couldn't get it out with my hands so I waited until I got home.

I went home and got a sterile needle and gently made an opening in the skin. Then I got a pair of tweezers and pulled out the hair.

I just don't understand why or how there could be a hair in my toe, on the underside - where no hair can grow, just like your fingertips.

Could anyone explain?

Hair is very thin but it can be sharp, especially when cut or broken; sharp enough to pierce the skin. It's called a hair splinter. For most of us it's rare to get one because we don't deal with anywhere near as much cut & broken hairs, but I've heard hair stylists get them pretty regular, as well as dog groomers.

Wow, never heard of that...

i don't know how its happened but the same thing happened only with my tongue!!

it just did
Ive had hair grow on my toes
sounds like it started growing the wrong way
maybe your shoes or socks pushed it until it grew like that

u must have had a lil cut and stepped on a piece of hair that went itno ur skin and was embedded in there thats the only thing i can think of or it might be cancer and u might die
