Overcoming shyness???!

Question: My whole life I have been the person that sits back and watches people. I am a extremely shy person. Its mostly due to my lack of confidence and self esteem. I have absolutely none. Well Im 26, and I cant handle it anymore. I hate being shy, it drives me crazy. I get extremely nervous when I talk to anyone, I clam up and am afraid to say anything. Its very extreme.I have gotten somewhat better. Before I would absolutely avoid everyone, from fear of talking.I try to talk to people now, but I just cant.I never know what to say to people. Please help me!!! Give me some pointers on overcoming shyness, and to help me be more outgoing. When it comes to very close relatives and my husband, Im not shy at all. But, with my job, I have to talk to people all day, and I dont have any friends anymore, Im too shy to have them. HELP!!! PLEASE!!! I hate being shy, and I want to overcome it.

You touch my heart. I too have suffered from this. I overcame at one point by getting a job with a Temporary agency. It challenged me to meet new people and do new things, yet offered me the flexibility to move on when things got too overwhelming without damaging my resume. I would tell you more about me experience if you like. A womens therapy group was also a very helpful. It helped me address my lack of confidence and self exteem issues. We role played with one another in a safe setting as if we were in public. It was helpful that we all felt the same threat, which made equal vulnerability with each other. It helped when I realized that people often mistaken my shyness for "snob." That was quite a shock. Another thing that can be helpful is to find something you do feel confident about yourself and build on it. I began tackling my shyness in my 20's as well. Im now in my 40's. Its funny how life sometimes puts you back in a place you were once in. BUT you now have the tools to work with to once again conquer. Email if you like. You have half the battle won just by recognizing you have some work to do and being willing to do it. And seeking advice. Knowledge is power.

i am the same type of pereson all i did was start doing roles in plays but i still am shy i just well im a student i jst try to meet new friends at school or online like now
