How do you all feel about the smoking ban that was put in place last summer?!

Question: I am really chuffed as it made me give up smoking and it's been 3 months for me now. I have done it before but have always fallen off the wagon on nights out but now that temptation has been taken away from me I have been really strong. I feel I have cracked it this time and it's mainly down to the ban last year. I now find the smell of other people smoking gross and I am ashamed of my selfish attitude as a smoker smoking in public before because it is horrible for non-smokers.

fantastic idea should have happened 20+ years ago.
Maybe then my dad a non smoker who died from lung cancer due to passive smoking would still be alive today

Good for you,but as a smoker who enjoys it i disagree with you 100 percent. Please go and preach elsewhere.

My opinion is, it should of been down to choice. The pubs/clubs/cinemas etc should of been able to choose which they wanted to be,then everyone is happy.

I like the fact that restaurants and bars are smoke-free but I still have friends that smoke so I'm constantly going outside.

Only bad things is that clubs need to get decent air fresheners as it just smells of sweat and a*se, yuck!

Well done for giving up! I gave up 4 years ago and am the same as you - hating the smell and wishing I not been such a selfish smoker. The ban is brilliant as I can enjoy nights out. The only drawback is now there are groups of smokers outside buildings but I suppose they are easy enough to avoid.

I couldn't be happier about the smoking ban. Allowing smokers in a restuarant/bar is like allowing peeing in the swimming pool.

I wish it had never happened- before the ban I had a choice- if I wanted to avoid cigarette smoke then I wouldn't go into pubs and clubs that were full of smokers- now I can't even walk down the street without inhaling smoke from numerous folk all looking cold and miserable hanging around doorways like tramps. It's no good for the smokers and no good for the non- (I smoke, but only roll ups and I can't stand the smell of "straights") I think we should bring back smoking rooms that way those who want to smoke can without looking like tramps and those who don't can stay the hell away!

I'm glad they did it. I'm not a smoker and I shouldn't have to be around other smokers. It's nasty and its bad for you. I don't want that around me or my family.

The principle is all wrong. It's nothing to do with smelling bad, coughing, bad health etc. It is about taking away choice. That is at the heart of the matter. The decision is all about polititions winning votes and staying in control. Name a politition who cares about your health and I will vote for them.

I wid love tae be able tae give up smokin' and I thought that the ban wid be the perfect opportinity. Instead, it huz forced me tae huv nights oot in other folk's hooses who let ye smoke. I cannae be annoyed wi' divin' ootside in a howlin' gale at the pub, jist tae huv a wee puff!! Oor local drinkin' spots huv suffered immensely frae the ban and urr noo lookin' fur a way roon it withoot breakin' the law. They urr losin' tons o' dosh each week!!!
