Too old at 61?!

Question: Dorothy Simpson from North Yorks. was told she was too old to have a heart bypass operation by the North Yorks. Primary Care Trust. Whilst this was being discussed this morning on Radio York i phoned and advised them that it is illegal to use age discrimination in this country. Apparently she has been contacted this afternoon and told that she can now have it and is thanking the media for intervening. Who the hell are these faceless people who would condemn a 61 year old to death who has paid contributions all her life and should now expect proper treatment and care and how old are they? How dare they write off someone at 61!!!!

I'm glad that you shared this story with us. It shows some people are still fighting back.

Health care is a real problem in the world. It is run by super rich business people (many of whom are doctors), who continually look to increase their profits AT THE EXPENSE OF THE PEOPLE.

This means that unless you can pay the hefty fees that doctors and hospitals charge, you are either going to go totally without health care, or you will get the very minimum they can legally get away with... As people age, they will be slowly priced out of health care altogether. This has been one of the goals of the Bush administration in the United States of America. If you don't pay taxes, there's no reason for the government, that is the super rich that run the government in reality, see no reason why you should live. You are cutting into their profits by using taxes through government programs.

So who are the people who make these decisions? Look to the people who are so wealthy that they keep it hidden so that you might learn their names if you really dig for them.

How dare they write someone off at 61? To them, people are not humans. They are cattle or commodities to be used and manipulated, that's all. They don't even see it as anything personal.

It has been written that you get the government you deserve. It's also been written that when you don't speak up when an injustice is done to one person, don't be surprised when it's done to you next.

Think about it.

Wow, you made a medical diagnosis over the radio. Your a genius. You may not know what the other factors were. Sometimes the elderly can live longer with problems than with surgery. But if she wants it now she can get it. It's her life to risk.

I know this is a very sensible topic of discussion but its not much of a question is it? You would find much better reception of such topic over at the Yahoo forums. You are right though, it is wrong and is a way to keep costs down.

If she were 91 I could MAYBE understand they didn't think she was strong enough for the procedure, but even then it should be up to her to make the decision, not them! 61 is NOT old at all and I can't believe some moron told her that! Obviously they didn't get away with it thanks to the media. Good Going!

Excellent question. We have all got to be more questioning when those in authority say NO. The same thing is creeping in with those with learning difficulties or mental handicaps or physical disabilities.

This labour government are rapidly getting the HITLERIAN mentality.

It happens alot over here but they use other excuses not to treat people over a certain age for illnesses cos it's too costly,my mum being one of them!

61 is not what I would call old- I wish her well and hope the operation is successful
