Do we have any treatments for viral infections? (not just bacterial)?!

Question: I'm aware for the millions of antibiotics and treatments we have for bacterial infections, but what about treatments for virals? I Understand that we cannot unfortunately kill a virus yet, which in the year 2008, is still absurd that medicine hasn't gotten very far still, but do we have any treatments that can manage viral conditions, or not make them as severe?

I'm aware that for the HIV virus we have treatments, but what about viral infections in general, infections that affect the pulmonary system, pneumonia/bronchitis, and other systems of the body, even the flu?

I mean other than homeopathy and herbs/teas that claim they help. Do we have anything that doctors can prescribe, or that they'd give you in hospitals if battling a severe infection?

Or can we just treat complications from illnesses, but can't really treat the illnesses themselves?

IF we truly have nothing, I'm scared.

What if we get viral infections that we simply cannot fight off? lol.

There are antiviral medications out there, but they generally only give them for severe problems. An antiviral generally stops the virus's ability to reproduce, giving your body an easier time to fight and destroy the virus. With problems like the flu, your body can fight the virus on its own, and while you may feel crappy, healthy people will get better. The immune system is going to fight a virus better than any drug can when it's just a cold or the flu. People rely so much on medications, including antibiotics, that they forget that our body is designed to fight those things. And we've actually made stronger bacteria with our antibiotics. Sometime we just have to let our own bodies fight without any medication.
