Never need an alarm clock, my Dr said this is normal and people who need them ar!

Question: Every person I have talked to thinks I am weird because I have never had an alarm clock and I have only been late to work once in 8 years. I dont know what clues my brain gets to wake up but I do no matter what time or how late I stay up I have to no problem. But if I take a nap I wake up very grumpy. My Dr said it is not normal to need an alarm clock but it seems to me if I am one of the only ones that dont need one I am weird. What do you think?

Finally! Somebody else who does not need an external alarm clock!!! I go to bed at midnight, every night and wake up at 7 in the morning, no alarm needed!

This is a little something called your body's circadian rhythm. It's your internal, natural alarm clock. People with a strong circadian rhythm should not need an alarm clock, because your body's schedule will keep you on track.

You are not strange, in any way... you have a great circadian rhythm.

That's absolutely awesome

thats great. i wish i didnt need one. often i dont get enough sleep so i need one otherwise id be late for class or work.

i know a few people who dont use one to wake up,
but i wish i was like that i need something to wake
me up or ill be late for everything.

Humans are creatures of habit. I read a few weeks back, that they conducted a study of humans that had to live in a room for 5 days without being able to see outside and without clocks. The people went to sleep and woke up all around the same time everyday. They also ate around the same time. After 4 days, they were on a 25 hour cycle, so it does change a little, but it is still close.

thats a gift. i wish i was like that. i get up around 10 without an alarm clock, but i definitely need one for anything earlier than that.

I wish I didn't need an alarm clock... You are SO lucky.
I have heard that you shouldn't use an alarm clock to wake up...

I would sleep ALL day if I didn't set my alarm. (Which I absolutely hate, so I set my alarm!)

Even with my alarm, I have been known to sleep through this tons of times. (I usually set my bedroom alarm - which is on the other side of my room, plus I set my phone alarm - which I usually set twice!.... This way I get so annoyed at all this noise, I get up!)

The funny thing is I wake up if I hear the slightest noise outside and I hear my daughter roll over in bed.

I've tried all the tricks, window open, curtains open, no fan on, going to bed early (I have noticed though, if I go to bed around 7pm I get up without an alarm clock and actually wake up really early!! - but I can't make myself go to bed at this time!)

I'm the same, I cannot nap... I wake up really grumpy. (Then I am left wondering why I decided to take a nap when I know this fact!) I know heaps of people where they nap and wake up feeling refreshed and happy! (Weirdo's... lol)

It seems that your body's biological clock is 'programmed' to wake up around the exact time. Some people have the same 'problem' from the moment they start get up early for either work or school and maintained that for a few days. I also realised that I can do the same thing whenever i want to wake up early the next day. All i have to do the night before is to think hard about the time that i want to wake up and what i have to do once i wake and the urgency of that task, and this keeps 'playing' in my thoughts till i fall asleep. Unfortunately, the part about waking up grumpy could be be the effect of the insufficient relaxing sleep that i got the night before.
