Ear won't pop after flying?!

Question: Just got off a plane 3 hrs ago and one of my ears will not pop and I can't hear very well. I do have a runny nose coming on feeling a little congested. What to take or how to get my ear to pop?

Try benedryl before sleep. Try pouring hydrogen peroxide in your ear (it will be weird because you hear & feel the bubbling.

Good luck

Common ways to cure the ear that won't pop:

- Chew gum.
- Yawn.
- Plug your nose, hold your breath, and gently fill your mouth with air until your ear pops back to normal. WORKS BEST!

Be careful with this last one if you feel a cold coming on - it can send bacteria into your Eustachian tube (runs between your mouth and your ear) and cause an ear infection.

Good luck! :)

Most likely your runny nose and congestion are the signs of a common cold, which is very easy to contract on a air plane. You should always take something like airborne or Echinacea prior to being locked in an enclosed area for long periods of time with lots of people. One or more of them will be sick and pass it on to you. If you have a cold and are congested then your Eustachian tubes are most likely congested too. Your Eustachian tubes are inside your head just behind the middle ear. This is where the air pressure is regulated when your changing elevations, such as on a plane or traveling to mountains. When this tube is congested it can take longer for air to escape from it. It should go away eventually. Take some cold medicine and/or a decongestant to help. Flushing your ear will not help unless it is very dirty.
