Well, the one thing you can't do is "hurry up" and fall asleep. Wondering if you have some things on your mind that is keeping you from falling asleep. If so, just lay in the dark very still and let each area of your body just fall numb and quiet...picture each body part asleep. If your mind is spinning from unresolved thoughts or problems, just quietly tell yourself you are sending them up...up...and away for tonight. Picture them leaving and floating up... Agree to take them back tomorrow, but just let-them-go-for-tonight. Take a deep breathe of cleansing air and slowly blow out all the bad toxic feelings you hold....take in the good....let out the bad. Repeat....Repeat... You should start to relax soon after doing this ..just keep doing it till you no longer have a need to....Goodnight...zzz zzzzz zzz

Only thing i can think of is sleeping pills ( sorry )

listen to music while reading a book walking around a room drinking milk

do pushups until your very very tired

Things that may help:

1. No reading or watching TV in bed. These are waking activities. If your insomnia is chronic, it is not a good thing to do, says Dr. Alex Clerk, head of Stanford Sleep Disorder Clinic in Palo Alto.
2. Go to bed when you're sleepy-tired, not when it's time to go to bed by habit.
3. Wind down during the second half of the evening before bedtime. 90 minutes before bed, don't get involved in any kind of anxiety provoking activities or thoughts.
4. Do some breathing exercises or try to relax major muscle groups, starting with the toes and ending with your forehead.
5. Your bed is for sleeping, if you can't sleep after 15-20 minutes, get up and do something relaxing.
6. Have your room cool rather than warm.
7. Don't count sheep, counting is stimulating.
8. Exercise in the afternoon or early evening, but no later than 3 hours before bedtime.
9. Don't over-eat, and eat 2-3 hours before bedtime.
10. Don't nap during the day.
11. If you awake in the middle of the night and can't get back to sleep within 30 minutes, get up and do something else.
12. Have No coffee, alcohol or cigarettes two to three hours before bedtime.
13. If you have disturbing dreams or nightmares add an ending that you want.
14. Schedule a half-hour writing about your concerns and hopes in a journal every night to free up your sleep from processing your dilemmas as much.
15. Listen to calming music or a self-hypnosis tape for sleep.

you should talk to a doctor about that...is something bothering you? Clear your min, meditate (if you want) don't watch tv, it keeps you up.

A few natural remedy's I do.
I turn the shower on as hot as possible and inhale the warm moisture it gives off.
Lie down, close your eyes and try to meditate.
Stretching does the trick for me as well.

try chamomille tea, or some stretching. breathing really slow and deep helps to relax you also.

start readin a book/// i promise youll pas out

eat a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, and rub your tummy, it sounds odd but it always helps me

Aww, sweetie.
Relax, take a deep breath.
Make yourself a warm milk with honey.
Listen some relaxing music (especially classical music)
Think about the things which you like when you go to bed.
Good Luck!

Ok read a book something very boring or open and close your eyes non stop for 3 minutes trust me it helps you will get tired of it and fall out

Find a text book from a subject you didn't really care for and force yoursself to read it.

i have heard that milk is good for that! you can also try to do some intense exercise that will get you tired.

listen to a John Kerry speech

Read a history textbook, u'll automatically fall asleep!!!

benidril?

or what i always do..... put in a slow paced movie youve seen a ton and turn the volume down a ton till you strain to hear it and lay there listening to the humming of the movie and watch the action and drift off to sleep :)

I would take nyquil and read a book with the lights down low. If you don't want to take nyquil just try reading a book without bright lights on while in bed.

just take a sleeping pil (alprozolam 0.5 mg)
if u want u can ask ur Dr ,
little anxity and stress that's it u will be ok

Have you tried the herbs Valerian, or Camomile, or Hawthorn berries? Valerian knocks me out! If these herbs don't work for you it must be your mattress!
Never drink coffee before you go to bed!
Before bed a weak cup of regular tea is fine! Herbal tea is best but don't try morning brew at night! Valerian is for Sleepin while Vervain is for Alertness and waking up! Vervain Alerts the brain! Too much vervain would cause insomnia and Valerian is the remedy.. Don't use these too often as it can become habit forming if you're not careful! Never try forcing yourself to sleep! Force equals stress and that stress would keep you awake! Go to bed when tired.
Also realize this you don't have to sleep if you don't need it but still its best to rest.. It's a myth that you have to sleep every night but you need to rest every night unless you do shiftwork then sleep when your schedule allows it! Some nights I have just 4 hours deep sleep and that's sufficient yet 4 hours light sleep would not be sufficient. 63% of people are said to be moderate or light sleep so they need at least 6 to 8 hours sleep. Some real light sleepers will need about 10 hours sleep! It's the depth of your sleep that's important it determines how much sleep your body needs! Over sleeping is just as bad as under sleeping!

Sounds like you have some sort of anxiety attack. I had that before, it turned out to be nasal decongestion medication that you take orally. Soon as I lay down and tried to sleep, I felt like I had to get up. I was tired and wanted to sleep but could not relax and felt all anxious and weird.
Don't worry this will pass. The trick is to relax(I know that's harder said than done) and sleep will follow.

What is your sleeping environment like? Are there loud noises, bright lights, high temperature? There is a natural substance called melatonin which the human body produces during sleep cycles, and is critical to the circadian rhythm which keeps us in sync with daylight/night cycles. Melatonin is light sensitive! Your body will NOT produce it in lighted environments. So I think this plays into what others have said about not watching TV -- which is basically the equivalent of staring directly at a light bulb! The same thing goes for computer monitors. Also --- do you work the night shift or keep odd hours? Your light/dark cycles may be off because of an irregular schedule. I once had gotten so off schedule that I found the best thing to do was to purposely stay up all night one night then go to bed early the next night to get back 'in sync' -- maybe this would work for you?
