Any serious addiction has the potential to rob addicts of everything: their jobs, their homes, their husbands/wives, children, health, self-respect. Old alcoholics apparently develop incontinence - lovely just pottying uncontrollably. Then there are "functioning" alcoholics who manage to keep a job and family, etc., but they get drunk every day after work & it affects their personality. They may become combative after drinking - or become very loving or just go fall into a stupor. They usually wake up the next day feeling like they've been run over by a giant herd of cattle & swallowed a couple buckets of sand.
So, just imagine - what would it be like if your Mom or your Dad had this problem. Would your folks fight? Would they divorce? Would you feel abandoned when you needed advice or help with homework or just someone to be there?
You can do it - and if you do, you'll be proud of your achievement.
