Why is it bad to eat late at night?!

Question: Its not that bad if your a night owl. The problem is when you eat and lay down soon after eating. Its not good for you and its makes you gain weight faster. They also say it could cause you to be sick. If your up at midnight and you eat, you'll be okay if you go to bed at like 3-4 am and there really isn't anything wrong with it.

It can upset your stomach and lead to bad sleep. Also, eating right before going to sleep can lead to nightmares. It's happened to me a bunch of times.

Because right after you eat, don't you go directly to sleep and then the food isn't digested properly and there you go. YOU STORE FAT!! Ahhh, I was like that when I was smaller now I only do that like for special special occasions. =)

Cos after u eat, u sleep and your body does not have enough time to digest.and u will grow fat...!!!

because when you go to sleep all the food in your stomach hasnt been digested, and your body shuts down, meaning you dont get any goodness out of the food, and it slows your metabolism rate down for the next day. i think. hope it helped.

It's only bad if it affects the way you sleep. If your hungry and eat and sleep fine without it coming up, then nothing to worry about. If your having weight problems, it is not a good idea to eat after supper.

I have had some of my best naps after I have eaten lunch, when I wake up I feel like a million bucks.

When you eat food just before going to sleep, your body shuts down and does not digest it immediately
The food is sitting in your warm stomach, any bacteria on the food is not being killed right away and the food may actually start to rot.
When you wake up, now you have rotten or partially rotted food in your stomach which is not good.

If i took a steak and left it in a warm moist room for 8 hours... would you eat it? When you are sleeping your stomach is the perfect environment for growing bacteria.

There are several reasons people say it's bad to eat before bed time. One is that you tend to gain more weight if you do, as you're not doing anything but sleeping to burn off those late night calories. It can also cause poor sleep and vivid dreams.

It's exactly like the myth that having caffeine at night is bad. If you can handle it, aka. stomach it, literally, there is no harm. If you want to get into the specific nutritional effect, if you are going to eat late at night, it is best to have foods high in protein and fat (healthy fat), and low in carbohydrates. Unused carbohydrates get converted into fat very easily, and because you likely don't need energy late at night, avoid them if you aren't thrilled about gaining weight. Good choices late at night are foods like: tuna (high in protein), cottage cheese (casein protein - slow digesting), peanut butter (healthy fats), etc.

bc it wont get digest right away and turn into fat
