Believe it or not, your body works quite hard while you are alspeep, although it uses only a small amount of energy. It uses this time to recover which means healling and cleaning. The body uses energy while you sleep to keep you breathing as well as helping aches and pains to go away and also to rebuid the immune system. This is why doctors recommend bed rest when you are sick.
Your body, of course, gains energy from the foods you eat but when that energy has been used up you begin to feel fatigued, disoriented and all round buggered. When you oversleep your body has to go through longer periods without a fuel source (imagine being awake and not eating or drinking for more than 8 hours!) so when you wake your energy levels are low and you still feel tired.

it will do more harm than good when u oversleep....find other things to do....

yea, excessive sleeping can leave you more tired, this is because you are making your body get used to sleep, is like classical condition, your body is getting used to sleeping a lot so once you decide to wake up and stop sleeping, your body still "tells" you to go back to sleep.

its true. first hand experience. the longest time i slept was around 18 hrs straight. basically anything in excess is harmful.

plus it can actually be a disorder like Hypersomnia or depression.

oh the reason why is that your body gets used to being asleep all the time. your muscles get weaker and it starts getting harder to be energized.

I get this newsletter that states that sleeping excessively buggers up your natural sleep patterns, napping is fine but no more than 20-45 minutes (and even 45 mins may be too long for some). If you are tired during the day, it is okay to nap but keep it to the recommended time if possible, and do your best to get a reasonable night's sleep - no caffeine, don't overeat before bed (give an hour or two before lying down after food). Good luck.

Long hours of sleep as a symptom of depression certainly isn't refreshing and the way you describe never ending spirals that feeds on itself is many people's description of depression.
