It could be hypotension, or it could be increased intracranial pressure, most likely due to hydrocephalus (a condition here fluid accumulates in the brain, that's fairly common among the elderly, that presents with dizziness, naseua, and some other symptoms that he may have that nobody has asked him about, or that he didn't mention because he may not think they're important). Since the doctor ruled out blood pressure problems, I'd take him to a neurologist. A ten minute neurological exam (a physical that tests brain function), and a quick history will tell any neurologist with half-a-brain if it's something caused by increased intracranial pressure.

Also, did the doctor have him wear a blood pressure monitoring device for 24 hours? What about an ECG? Often, circulatory problems that cause these symptoms won't present while the patient is in the doctors office.

dehydration can do that to you

WOW, it's almost like we're talking about the same Dad. Mine is also 86 and complains of frequent dizziness and of being tired so much. If he has been thoroughly examined by his doctor, he may have to face the fact that he is getting old and things just don't work as fast as they used to. Circulation can be a little slower, too. It also could be an ear infection messing up his equilibrium. Or, sometimes when our eyes are not aligning up properly they can make us feel dizzy and the dizziness can cause nausea. Have his eyes and ears checked out.

I just dealt with this issues, and Im only 32. I have been taking blood pressure pills for a long time, and recently was told that my blood pressure was great! I had nearly the same exact syptoms - a head rush type feeling, no matter if I was sitting, standing or lying down. I went in and it turned out that my blood pressure was actually so good, it was bad. My blood pressure was to LOW.

Im not a medical professional and maybe someone down the line could explain this better, but the doctor took a repeated sereies of blood pressure tests with me laying down, then I would sit up and he would take it, and then I would stand and he would take it, then back to laying down again.

A change in my BP meds has made the difference in the world. If by chance this has already been done, and you find out its something different, I would love to know what it was. Maybe give me a heads up on something going on with myself.

Best wishes and good luck.

life, love or just every hassling him, asking how he is...
