What is the difference between a psychiatrist and a psychologist?!

Question: Just wondering.

Answers: Just wondering.

A psychiatrist is a medical doctor that deals with physical reasons for mental illnesses. They work with people who have disorders that can be treated with medication, like ADHD, OCD, Bi-polar etc. They can help diagnose exteme charactor disorders as well as chemical malfunctions in the brain.
Psychologists and social workers are usually therapists. They are trained in human behavior and can help you to see problem areas in your life and how to have better coping skills and make better choices.
Many psychologists work in clinics with access to psychiatrists in case they believe there are medical issues that need to be addressed or if they think their clients are depressed and in need of medication.
There are many different types of psychologists and different beliefs as to whay types of therapy are most effective. They can include behavior modification and bio-energetics and many many more. You should research each type to decide what is right for you.
(Personally I like bio-energetics, but that is just me.)

a psychiatrist can prescribe medicine. Appts. are short they don't do much therapy.

a psychologist does therapy and can't prescribe meds.

A psychiatrist is an M.D., i.e. doctor of medicine; they can write prescriptions. A psychologist does not go to med. school, but may have a Ph. D in psychology. A psychologist uses therapy to treat rather than medicine.
