I quit for 4 months a year ago, then i started back up! I have now quit again and am at 2 months. It is very hard. Mainly because you can smell it a mile away and the cravings come. Or when I am drinking a beer. You go through wild periods of intense dreams and you kinda feel on edge for a couple weeks and anytime you are around smoke. Good luck on your paper. Using real people's thoughts/opinions is a good idea!

its realy hard. iv been smoking for 11 years and have tried to stop numerous times but the craving ALWAYS seems to win out in times of stress. and stopping smoking helps create the stress as well. i am trying a nicotine inhaler this time. iv done the gum, patch and hypnosis and nothng has helped yet.
dont start it isnt worth it

its hard @ first..it takes commitment..you try not to smoke for as long as possible, it might seem hard but after a while it seems ok not smoking...doctors have medication for it..

~Anyways GOOD LUCK

I am not a smoker however I know that quitting smoking is very difficult. The body of a smoker is addicted to nicotine and when a person wants to now give it up it takes the body through a a change of now the body having to be without nicotine. You can read a little up on nicotine on Wikipedia. Its not always accurate but its a good guide

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nicotine

I started smoking at age 10,
I quit at age 43. That's 33 years of smoking.
But I finally quit 7 years ago.

The secret to my ability to stay quit all this time was that, unlike most smokers, I didn't attempt to wait until I was at some stress free time in my life, but rather quit during a time of ungodly and unbelievable stress in my life.

Now every other stress that comes along is nothing compared to that which I experienced at that point in my life, and so I am not driven to reach for a cigarette.

Oh and PS, I don't believe in addiction (except in the case of opiates.) Smoking, like drinking, is a behavior one chooses to engage in, or not.

It is very hard... (I never have, I just know this stuff) I think you have to take pills, medicine. You're supposed to deduct 1 or 2 cigarettes each day from your normal amount... Sorry, I don't know much about smoking...
