Working with children and always getting sick...?!

Question: I work with an afterschool program and I'm always getting sick! I got sick twice in one month (two seperate colds that was nearly the death of me). Of course, I'm exaggerating. It seems like I'm constantly trying to get them to wash their hands, but it's like a death sentence for them. I would like to hear from teachers especially (or anyone for that matter). I consider myself lucky that I'm not around them throughout the day.

Keep up on your multivitamins, stay well hydrated, and avoid refined sugars (white sugar, corn syrup). Get 8hrs of sleep EVERY night.

At the first hint of a cold coming on, start taking tons of vitamin C, and up your water consumption. If you take lots of vitaminC every day, it will lose its potent effect when you do become sick; so take it sparingly when healthy

Question: Are you washing your hands enough? Hands are a very efficient means of transporting germs from one person to another. Also, if you want the children to wash their hands then you should provide them the example and explain why it's important to wash your hands.

stop touching your face.... mouth .... eyes etc.... and wash your hands alot ....get a flu shot every year
but there has been alot of sickness going around and its hard to avoid

Make washing hands or using hand sanitizer fun! Associate it with fun things, certain snacks or projects during the day. Have a big thing of the pump purell, and they're more likely to use it. Also, make sure you are taking your multivitamin, and being very diligent about washing your hands, and your clothes when you get home.

Because you are being exposed to new germs, and you get
ill. Don't fret, you will become more immune in time.

In reading your question I got the impression that you have just recently started working with the children. About a year ago my wife and I started our young son in a preschool program. He started getting sick just as you described yourself to be. We discovered that he was being subjected to new bugs and such and would slowly build up his immunity system to protect him from them. So my advice to you is to either stop helping in the program, or just let time and nature take it's course. Good luck.
