Embarrissing doctor stories?!
Question: I have a fear of going to the doctor because I hate them to be in control of you. Mabey if you tell me the worst that could happen I will feel better about going. I have to go for a physical and when I think about it my tummy flips

Well, I have a different approach. You can call ahead, ask to speak to a nurse, and tell her your fear. Ask if she can just stay in the room with you the whole time. I am sure that can be arranged.
Once, I got terrified when I need stitches in my hand, and I could not make my hand move off my chest so I had to tell the nurse, "Um, could you pretend I am only 7 years old, and just take my hand! I am sooo scared!!" and she was very kind to me and I got through it okay afterall.
The first step towards feeling safe is to realize you have a voice and can say what you want and what you fear. And in a professional setting, you will be heard even if at other times in your life you were not able to have that safety.
