When I close my eyes, I can still see a streak of light there?!
Question: Hello there,
Do you know when you look at a bright light or the sun and then close your eyes, you can see a sort of lighter shape floating around (e.g a circle) which eventually fades (trying my best to explain it.)
Well anyway yesterday I must have looked at a streak of light or something as whenever I close my eyes I see a diagonal line (similar in shape to the country Japan) but it still hasn't gone away despite being more than a day?
Does anyone know why this is? Have I scorched my eye or something? Can anybody help me about this?

When you look at a bright light, like the sun, the pupils in your eyes contract. As soon as you look away or cup your eyes, thereby completely causing it to be in darkness, the pupils retract back to their normal position. As this transaction takes place, you see a small light inside your palm which is much lighter (probably red) and it diminished as your eyes adjust to the darkness.
It isn't very sensible to keep staring into sunlight and then immediately coming back into darkness. The UV lights can harm your pupils.
As for why you can see a line, maybe because your eyes are tired. Try to keep a pad of cotton soaked in cool water over your eyes for some time.
Also, if it doesnt improve, try visiting an eye specialist.
I think everybody get this when they look up in the sky or the sun, which you shouldnt do.
If it's not gone now it could be that you have damaged something.
If not it could also be something like another level of consciousness :) dont know how to explain.
In any case go to see a doctor.
me too im wondering when i was young =D but i didnt bother it so much , sometimes when my eyes see something that is bright after that, when im watching back something thats not bright, it can also see like a square of green or red color things, i dont really know how to explain
the retina at the back of the eyes have rods and cones, which are light receptors - they get stimutated like the pixels on a tv sreen. when u close ur eyes u can still see a faded image the retina is still stimulated - the stronger the light the lomger the image will linger
edit - if its still there after a day, maybe u should see a dr.
if u have looked at a very stong light source like the sun u may have damaged your retina - like screen burn on a pc screen
