Why can't alcoholics drink just just a beer or two? or maybe have a glass of!

Question: While the ingestion of alcohol is, by definition, necessary to develop alcoholism, the use of alcohol does not predict the development of alcoholism. The quantity, frequency and regularity of alcohol consumption required to develop alcoholism varies greatly from person to person. In addition, although the biological mechanisms underpinning alcoholism are uncertain, some risk factors, including social environment, emotional health and genetic predisposition, have been identified.

thats why they are called alcholics, they are addicted to alchol

because that's all they need to become dependent on alcohol again. it's kinda like how people who were heavy smokers and quit often can't even smoke one cig cause they'll want them again.

Alcoholism is an addiction... Its like an ex-smoker having a cigarette once in a while.

Any addiction only needs a small amount to become dependent on the addiction again.

I am clearly the wrong person to badmouth sots, as I am allergic to ethanol, per my own physiology. Half a drink, and a headache ruins it all for me. Which leads straight into the fact that most lushes have physiology which experiences ethanol the way cats dig catnip. It is only their fault to the extent that they know not to take that first drink, and might or might not be bored enough for it to shift the decision. The only cure for existing is, well, I've said enough. Regards, Larry.

Mate, its that first drink that does the damage.

One beer leads to two, of Ive had two, one more, thats only three, ill have four, why not a fifth, i haven't done anything bad like last time...

Its a viscous circle.

Also to be an alcoholic you dont have to drink every day, you can drink once a month, its what it does to you when you drink. Some start and cant stop, its like a set of blinders has been put on and all that can be focoused on is that next drink and oblivion.

its a waste of money. as a true alcoholic ive never enjoyed the taste of alcohol. i would never sip on a drink or two simply because i really don't like the taste of most alcoholic drinks. i normally check to see if i have at least 5 drinks to drink as fast as possible which is still hardly worth the effort, otherwise i save what i have until the next run or give them away to try and seem polite.
