Would you volunteer to catch malaria?!

Question: i heard on the radio that researchers in Seattle are looking for volunteers to hold a paper cup to their arm holding a mosquito that is infected with malaria. they are paying in some cases up to $4000. but you are being infected with the deadliest form of the disease. would you risk it. they say it is very controlled and you will be watched carefully. the purpose is to test a vaccine. would you risk this?

Malaria kills millions of people a year - obviously if you got really ill you would have the best care, the main cause of death is the high fever. Brain damage is also a risk. If they could prove that they could manage the high fever so that I would not suffer those effects I might consider it, but probably not - $4000 is not very much for taking such a risk.

I was gonna say when i first saw the question no...but I REALLY need the money to go back to school--REALLY badly...I would...

Surely they could test the vaccine on lab rats, or a human that is ALREADY infected?? :S
