Depending on what type of insurance you have you can search on their website for doctors that take your insurance. Once you find one you want to try just call your insurance and let them know you are switching PCPs (primary care provider's).
I am about to do the same thing; my doctor is clueless as well! I find a good doctor every 10 years or so and then they end up moving out of state and I end up with an incompetent jerk so I know where you are coming from!

go to a different hospital or family practice, if you must keep the same facility simply tell the receptionist that you would like to switch doctors
