I have just started doing yoga and i find that when i try to relax my muscles tw!

Question: because i can't relax

Answers: because i can't relax

Just keep at it. Try to keep your focus on those muscles as you try to relax. Over time, your muscles will get used to it and the twitching will subside. Yoga is really good for you, so don't give up.

Have a very good massage to un-twitch your muscles first for at least a week to prepare yourself for it. Then start yoga to get the desired result. Relaxation after each posture is a necessity for yoga.

Having been a dancer all my life, I know a lot about being mid-movement or mid-sequence when your body suddenly starts twitching. It can feel as if you've lost control, I know!

But the secret? The muscle's twitch is a good sign that your muscles are close to exhaustion and pumping blood quickly to balance themselves out. The key word being "close"; they twitch to avoid cramping or giving out.

But rest assured, everyone doing a powerful training routine experiences it. So although there are no specific exercises to stop the twtich, know that you're not alone. The best part is that over time, our muscles gain a "memory" with which our bodies' limits start to grow. For you, too, that muscle memory of your ever-increasing limits will get stronger with time, and you'll have less twitching over the long haul! (Bottom line: Relaxation won't always solve the problem, sometimes it's just a matter of consistency and repetition.)

A good tip for helping muscles recover: Try protein powder (whey or soy will do) after your workout. Studies show that protein helps muscles recover "whey" (sorry, I had to say it) more quickly than a post-workout meal high in carbs, sugars, etc. So your with each yoga/protein one-two punch you pull you'll feel the fatigue less and less.

I've included a link to the Women's Health magazine website for two tasty smoothie recipes. Try 'em out and have fun!
