HORRIBLE back pain!?!

Question: Back problems run in my family and I have Scoliosis but im 19 so I shoudnt be having bad back problems....
I have Horrible pain very low on my back like right where my tail bone is it feels like something is pinching and I cant bend over to pick anything up because it hurts so bad that I stop breathing for a second. It hurts when I go up and down stairs too
I havent done any heavy lifting and I dont think I slept on it wrong since it didnt hurt when I got out of bed yeterday

You are mostly done growing so your back shouldn't get worse (unless you have a curve that is 30 degrees or greater). That's good news. But I think its time to have your back checked by your family doctor.

Have your family doctor get an xray to see if you've developed scoliosis over the years. If you do have it and its in the lower back, it *could* give you the pain you're experiencing. Also, get a referral to a scoliosis specialist. Any doctor that is not a scoliosis specialist does not have the expertise to treat your back.

Your first job is to find out why your back is painful. Then you will know the kind of doctor needed to treat it.

One final thing. Scoliosis comes in two flavors: structural and functional (or non-structural). Functional means that something (unevel leg length, for example) has caused your back to curve. Structural (one kind is "idiopathic", or cause unknown) is the other kind.

A chiropractor may (or may not) be able to help functional scoliosis, but chiropractors, message therapists, acupuncturists, etc., can't fix idiopathic scoliosis. These people adjust the soft, connective tissues and that may (or may not, you can't tell ahead of time) make you feel better, but remember, idiopathic scoliosis is not a connective tissue disease. Your spine is growing curved.
