Are people really living longer?!

Question: Or is it really due to things such as seat belt laws, low birth death rates in the first world, or things that prevent accidents and injury to begin with

its true! the average life expectancy in our country is increasing (also known as the greying of america). The life expectancy is now 77-78 (it's 81 in Japan!). This does not mean our life span has increased (no one has lived past 120 years old). It is due to lower birth rates due to women working more and having children later, and is also due to improved health care and safety.

i dont get your question..

From what I've heard they're living shorter lives>

no

yea. It is because of the advancement in medicine

Yes they are.People are living until 115 now.

I think that it's more due to the medical things like medical attention or medicines that weren't discovered in the past.

Actually, I think people are living faster, not necessarily longer

i think the opposite , that also depends on what area in the world you can find good health care and good environment.

yeah people are living longer and there are less people dying than being born so we are gonna overpopulate and its gonna suck

Yeah, you don't make sense.

The Fat generation is not going to live longer...

They say that this coming generation will die of obesity related diseases being the first generation to have a shorter lifespan than their parents...

besides... don't the safety precautions extend the lifespan?

I believe it does in small percentage

Welllll

what is your ?

They're living longer, but only because we're spending exorbitant amounts of money keeping old people alive on medicare, etc. We're protacting death more than extending life.

Yeah, I guess it's kinda both. The law helps save a lot of lives & therefore, more people live longer.
& if there are low birth death rates then again... babies live longer

well i think they kind of even themselfs out. now with all the polution and fast food killing ppl. but all thows things you mentioned could help the avrage out by not haveing all thows low death ages

yeah, we are living longer due to better hygiene and medical technology. in the last 100 years, Americans have doubled their average life expectancy.

not really-pollution, cancer

Hmmm...I'm not sure if people are living longer in general if you're basing the mortality rate on natural cause (not due to murder or war). I guess it also depends on what region of the world you're living in too.

I would assume those who live an active and fit lifestyle tend to remain healthier as they get older.

Well, people are living longer than before because in the 1960s you had a 1 in 3 chance of living past 18. But we are still not living long enough. Humans are biologically designed to live till they are 120-140 years old. We actually kill ourselves bu drinking and smoking, if we stopped all that and lived in a farm we would be healthy through till we are 120 years old. One major killer is stress in our businesses.

Not that I'm aware of.
