Can I beat anxiety?!

Question: I am a 14 year old boy, and I have an extreme fear of vomiting. Because of this, I have many panic attacks and miss out in life. I have had to been picked up from school many times. If I'm going out somewhere, I will have a sudden panic attack. I just want to find a way to get rid of the anxiety (without "exposure therapy"). Does anyone else have these struggles? Does anyone know how I can beat this anxiety/phobia?

Hi,

If you feel a panic attack or feelings of anxiety creeping up on you then try this word repetition technique that I learned that helps me to quickly 'snap out' of my panic attacks:

I simply repeat the words 'cream cake' over and over in my head as quickly as I can without stopping. You could use any word or words you like really but that's what I chose (because I like cream cakes). It apparently works because it doesn't give your brain time to process the panicky thoughts and so helps you to relax again. Seems strange I know ... but it works for me!

There's also a free ebook that I found really useful called 'Get Rid of Panic and Anxiety for Good'. If you want to take a look you can find it at: http://curepanicattacks.premiergold.info... Even though I got it for free it has helped me absolutely loads!

yes, try a dr.

i don't have your struggles but i recommend trying to learn how to meditate and control your body. once you can control your mind and body, you will get less frequent attacks. feel better dude

I have exactly the same problem as you, try seeing a counsellour and see how that goes - there might be an underlying cause of your fears. A bit of hypnotherapy may even work. Also, you need to find a way of controlling your panic attacks which works for you. Taking deep breaths, counting to ten in my head , sucking a mint , drinking a bit of water and focusing on something else have all worked for me. Hope this helps!

Also, try www.emetonline.co.uk, it's a website about emetophobia (fear of vomiting) which you may find interesting.

Try deep breathing. Concentrate...Inhale thru your nose; exhale thru your mouth; rest. Do each for a count of 3. Do for 5 minutes at a time. Make sure your stomach inflates & deflates as you breathe.

Repeat to yourself" This will not last" "It WILL go away" "I will not die" "I will not vomit, it's not real".

Distract your mind: listen to music, write in a journal; read; exercise.

Consult with psychiatrist re: meds...some antidepressants are very good at treating anxiety & panic attacks.

See a professional social worker or psychologist to be able to talk about the underlying feelings & thoughts to your panic & to work on coping mechanisms.

Good luck...you can do it!

my partner suffers from bad anxiety so i know what your going through. there are many drugs that can help but also there are breathing exercises that you could learn to do, which will help calm you down and stop the panic attacks.so my advise is go see a doc and he will refer you to the right people who can help massively, my partner hasn't had a panic attack for around 2 years using the breathing techniques and drugs but he still has counseling for his phobias as he hasn't quite conquered them yet but he will and I'm sure you will too .just remember its all in your mind you need to change the way you process your thoughts. i know first hand that phobias do ruin your life if you let them ,i hope you do seek help as soon as possible as you are very young and shouldn't be held back from anything because of a fear of what MIGHT happen.i wish you all the best!!!! ive inclueded a link that maybe usefull to you as well good luck
