Quiting Smoking...?!

Question: I've tried quiting before, but I usually only make it to about two weeks. It's hard because everyone I live with smokes (except my younger sister), and when I start getting stressed about school, or money or work I need a cigarrete. I also really need one when I drink, but I'm trying to quit that too. Any one have any tips to help me be successful this time?

Hi Nelly,
I know it's hard. Smoking is a very strong addiction to break. The psychological aspect is the worst. What works for one, won't work for others. You're certainly not alone in failing on earlier attempts to quit. FWIW, educate yourself on what smoking does to your health. You're not getting away w/it because you still don't feel too bad (YET). Ask me how I know... Here's what worked for me. I was a very heavy smoker for 10yrs. It was a part of me, entwined into every aspect of my life. I tried to pick up jogging again. I felt (& knew what it was) referred pain in my left shoulder/arm after only 40ft!! I was only 24yoa. My Mother already had emphysema. I could see early warning signs in myself. Keep in mind that I was always a very athletic, healthy guy. I couldn't deny it to myself anymore. I had to accept that I was addicted. I also found out around that time, that RJ Reynolds(sp?) was making about $42million per day in blood money from tobacco sales. I used my anger @that obscenity to help myself. I decided those reprehensible ***@#^%'s weren't going to get another dime from me. I look forward to their payback in their next lives.

You have to make a commitment to making NOT smoking a part of your life. It's a conscious life style change. I never could've imagined myself w/o a cigarette or cigar hanging out of my mouth. That was many years ago. Tobacco doesn't rule me in the stightest. I don't want it @all. It can be done. I hope this helps. Good Luck.

i thikn that gradually decreasing the number of cigarettes by two each day may help.

It's hard if you live with people that smoke. When i quit it was making the decision that was the most important. I just stopped because that was what i decided and it was final. I dunno about tips because I didn't use them and anyway there are a million tips out there and i think they're useless unless you have DECIDED and make up your own mind to quit.

eat something when you crave

Go see your GP. Or if your from UK phone the NHS. Gud Luk

i found that by not smoking in the house, i cut way down. perhaps, you could talk to your family about that. it would be better for everyone and easier for you to quit. also, stop smoking in the car. try to avoid situations where you know you'll be tempted. when you feel the need, wait 15 minutes. odds are, you'll be able to wait another 15 after that. make a concious effort to smoke only the cigarettes you really want. these things will not make you quit but, should help you cut back to the point where it's easier. good luck.

you have to want to quit to be successful. i quit over a year ago. i tend bar and am surrounded my smoke and it doesn't bother me. i quit cold turkey...that's how badly i wanted to quit. exercise. that is the key to quitting. here are some links for you...the best thing that happens (besides the health benefits!) is how great your skin will look!!

resolve is the only answer. tips and tricks are cruches that do not work for long. Resolve to be, and stay smoke free. It is worth it.

Perhaps you could investigate a web search for "nicorette activestop".
