How severe do you have to be to be considered anorexic/bullimic?!

Question: You don't have to be severe at all. An eating disorder is classed as purging or vomiting to rid the body of food, starving yourself to loose weight, unhealthy misconceptions about food and your body, and this is something that goes on, on a daily basis. If you purge once in your lifetime, that is not an eating disorder, but if you think about it even a few times a week, then you need to seek help with the correct people to find out the causes as to why you are like this.

when you dont eat anything...

You have to have the criteria in the DSM-IV:

DSM-IV Criteria for Anorexia Nervosa

1. Refusal to maintain body weight at or above a minimally normal weight for age and height (eg, weight loss leading to maintenance of body weight less than 85% of that expected or failure to make expected weight gain during period of growth, leading to body weight less than 85% of that expected).
2. Intense fear of gaining weight or becoming fat, even though underweight.
3. Disturbance in the way in which one's body weight or shape is experienced, undue influence of body weight or shape on self-evaluation, or denial of the seriousness of the current low body weight.
4. In postmenarchal females, amenorrhea ie, the absence of at least three consecutive cycles. (A woman is considered to have amenorrhea if her periods occur only following hormone, eg, estrogen administration.)

Specify type:

* Restricting Type: During the current episode of anorexia nervosa, the person has not regularly engaged in binge-eating or purging behavior (ie, self-induced vomiting or the misuse of laxatives, diuretics, or enemas).
* Binge-Eating/Purging Type: During the current episode of anorexia nervosa, the person has regularly engaged in binge-eating or purging behavior (ie, self-induced vomiting or the misuse of laxatives, diuretics, or enemas).

when u dont eat or start puking urself...it doesnt have to be severe..

Well it's not about severity. You are anorexic when you deprive your body of calories because you have a fear to gain weight. Usually if you aren't eating at least 1200 calories a day... you are anorexic, if you are not eating the calories because you don't want to be fat. You can also eat more then 1200 calories and be anorexic... if you work out your body to the max... so you won't gain weight.. and don't eat enough for how how you are working your body.

bulimic: You are bulimic is you throw up your food because you don't want to gain weight. Some people do it once a week, some people once a day... some people after all meals.

People who are anorexic/bulimic have different serveries of the disorder.
