Perhaps weak blood vessels need to be strengthened with citrus bioflavonoids. Plenty of oranges or mandarins might help.

See if you can notice any pattern to the bloody nose. Is it mainly in the morning? If so, your house is probably too dry. A humidifier would help the situation.

If the bloody noses seem random, I would get her to her Primary Care Physician. Your PCP can refer you to an Ear/Nose/Throat specialist and get to the root cause of your daughter's problem.

Best of luck!

tell her to stop picking her nose

maybe its either dry or your dauhter may have low platelets. see a doctor because it might be serious

Like they said in Simpsons: "My nose wouldnt bleed so much if i could keep my finger out of there"

so yea...... tell her to keep her finger outta there....simple.....

I don't know about stopping it, but preventing it is probably a better approach.

Im guessing you live somewhere dry, or somewhere cold and you've run the heat all winter.

Direct heating takes moisture out of the air and when that happens, the direct heat has no moisture to turn warm. It makes the process very inefficient. Over time, your mucus membranes dry out, as well as your skin.

One way to add moisture, very inexpensively, is a warm air humidifier. A cold air humidfier is a mister, but can accumulate mold. Warm air blasts the water with an electric charge, sterlilizing the air.

It leaves a very light salt residue over time, so put a towel down.

When there is moisture in the air, your daughter's nose will stay wet, and the mucus membranes will absorb germs. Your air will stay balmy inside and your heat will run more efficiently and more rarely.

They are about $30 at Walmart.

There's also a system called April Air that you can install in your heating/cooling system.

If you want to try it out first, try boiling a big pot of water for a few hours. Ask your daughter to stand by the pot and ask her if it feel good where she's standing. Chances are you will too.

Also, flaxseed oil pills act as a good sealant to keep fluids in the skin.

Cutting down, or eliminating dairy will keep mucus membranes more moist.

Also, multiple bloody noses will create scabs the continue to build up each time she gets a bloody nose. That can create a chain that is hard to stop. Each time she blows her nose, it resets and worsens the internal scab.

Causes

Most nosebleeds are associated with colds, allergies, or minor injury to the nose. Other causes include violent sneezing, blowing the nose too forcefully, or a foreign object in the nose. Nosebleeds are a common side effect of isotretinoin (Accutane), a medication for acne.

Nosebleed

Vinegar will stop a nosebleed in its tracks. Just take a small sip and get it to the back of your throat, and breathe the vapors out your nose. No more nosebleed. It appears to cause the blood vessels of the nose to contract or to clot the blood rapidly. CG482

For a Nosebleed, put a little Cold water up your nose and lean your head back. Casey

Once initial bleeding has subsided, we put a little hemorrhoid ointment on a cotton swab and run it around the nostril. It moistens passageway and the ointment causes vessels to close up faster! Laura L.

Prevention

Avoid picking your nose or blowing it vigorously.
Use a humidifier to increase humidity in your home during the winter.
Limit use of aspirin, NSAIDs, or medicated nasal sprays to short term only, unless prescribed by your doctor.
Gently apply a thin layer of bacitracin or petroleum jelly into nose one to two times a day to relieve dryness and irritation. Using a cotton swab to apply, insert into nose ? to 1 inch and cover the entire circle of the nasal opening.
Put two to three drops of warm saltwater in each nostril before gently blowing a stuffy nose. Use an over-the-counter brand such as Ocean or Salinex or make a homemade solution by dissolving ? teaspoon salt in 1 cup of water.
Self-Care

If you have a nosebleed, follow these steps:

Gently blow nose once to remove large clots that may interfere with applying pressure.
Apply continuous pressure to nose for 15 minutes without checking. Pinch the nostrils below the bony part of the nose and press firmly toward the face.
Sit up with head bent forward slightly and breathe through the mouth.
Do not swallow blood. Spit it out through your mouth.
Apply ice over the middle of your face to constrict blood vessels and reduce bleeding.
