Does speedwalking for 20 minutes do anything?!


Question: i'll switch from speedwalking to light running for 20 minutes on a tredmill and then do 30 minutes of toning (crunches, leglifts, pushups...etc.)

You do not have to work out like a gladiator to either lose weight or to get fit. If you do not have much time there are plenty of everyday things that you can do to help you lose weight and improve your health and fitness. Try to use a bicycle whenever possible, ie going to work or short journeys, or, walk / jog if you can. You could try things like taking the stairs instead of the elevator, run up them if possible. If you are walking to the shop, jog instead. You do not need elaborate equipment to work out. You could try doing step-ups in your lunch / tea breaks. A small step-up stool or a stack of phonebooks will do. If you do a selection of these type of excercises it will make a difference and, 5/10 mins here and there is as good as 20mins in one go. It's easier to do and a lot less daunting to take on.

I would stick with the walking-it does wonders, and you really do not have to "get in the mood". It is an exercise that will last a lifetime.

Oh don't let anyone that it won't do anything!!!! I lost 25 lbs so far by just walking, cutting out desserts, and merely just eating healthier.

When I started, I was tired just going a quarter mile! Now, I walk about 3 miles a day, at a fast clip. I'm increasing that distance now.

I can't ever think about running- it ruins your knees, and I am too large a bust size to run! I'm not in my prime anymore, but walking, and hiking, I can keep up for the rest of my life.

If I add some toning like you describe- I bet I'll reach my goals in a little while! I want to lose about 20 more lbs.

Speedwalk for thirty minutes and work it out that way
