Organ donation?!

Question: Can a disease or sickness prevent someone from donating their organs?

Answers: Can a disease or sickness prevent someone from donating their organs?

If the person is dying/has died of an infectious agent then the organs will most likely not be used for another patient (depends heavily on the infectious agent). If the donor is a living subject then the doctors will most likely wait until the disease has been neutralized by the donor's immune system before transplanting organs (like a kidney or part of a liver, things that are redundant and may be removed in proportioned quantities without killing the donor)

As long as the disease is not in any of the organs donated, Is fine.

Sure, depends on what you got and where! My eyes for example would be okay, but my liver, alas, would not!

It really depends on the illness/disease. you may want to consult your physician

they'll just use the working ones

Yes, but it depends on what disease. Obviously they aren't going to donate someones heart who has AIDS. However, there are other diseases that will not affect the recipient.

of course

i don't think anyone would want a cancerous kidney......

accidents happen with transplants and blood transfusions, such as accidental infection with HIV/AIDS, they don't realise the donor has the disease and the infection spreads into the receiving body

Yes.

Diseases carried by blood, cancer, all sorts of things.

Typically donors are people in good health who have died from accidents. You can't transplant an organ from a diseased person unless you know for sure it can't be transferred to the recipient.

It depends on the disease or sickness. Any organs affected by the disease cannot be donated to other people as they are no longer usable, but could potentially be donated for research. If there are still healthy organs that can be used and donated, the doctor will usually discuss this with the family at the time of the person's death. However, you can always ask your doctor prior, if you want to know in advance (if you want to include this information in your will for instance).

Yes only healthy organs from a other wise healthy individual can be donated. Like you can't doante a heart if you died from a heart attack because your heart is damaged.
So a person with HIV cancer etc can't doante their organs because they have bee comprimised and they can pass along the diesease in the case of HIV
