I started dieting on Feb. 3 2008 but I have one little problem.........PLEASE HE!

Question: I haven't had soda the whole time. I eat regular oatmeal or plain cheerios mixed with apple cinnamon cheerios (For some flavor) for breakfast. 10 crackers for snack in the morning. Wheat bread light mayo ham and low fat cheese sandwich for lunch and a lean cuisine for dinner. I also try to drink 64oz of water a day. I PEE A LOT, but for some reason I can't do any kind of bowel movement. I use to go almost everyday but now it's only twice a week. Any segestions so that I don't have to go to the doctor. Also I excersise 5 days a week for about 35 mins (Running & Walking). Could this bowel movement problem also be a reason why I step on the scale and I really don't see any weight loss. Who knew that trying to have a better life style would be so......unhealthy

Lexy,

I know it's not what you want to hear, but the fact is it's always recommended that you consult with your physician before beginning any major dietary change or weight loss program. The diet industry churns out hundreds of books each year for this "diet" or that, and there are countless programs-- ie; Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig, etc.... but if you have outstanding health issues which need to be addressed you'll never be successful and accomplish your goal.

It's great that you're drinking 64oz of water each day-- you're probably well-hydrated, but the fact that you're not having regular bowel movements *could be* related to the lack of fiber in your diet and other factors. (The oatmeal is a good start, but the menu you've described is loaded with sodium --- and where are the fruits and vegetables?)
On the other hand, it could be related to something else altogether-- you might have an underlying condition -- which is why you should see your doctor before you continue.

In the meantime, add a couple of pieces of fruit to your daily regimen in place of the mid-morning crackers, and if you feel hungry in the afternoon munch on a few carrot and celery sticks. At dinner, have a BIG green salad with plenty of fresh vegy's and a little lo-fat dressing-- If you can't stand lettuce, have a serving or two of steamed vegy's with your dinner. Those simple changes will kick up your fiber intake immediately.

You're working really hard and have been doing so for over a month. Why not give yourself the best possible advantage by making an appointment with your family physician for a complete physical exam? (keep a daily "journal" of your food intake for a few days and take that with you to your appointment)
You'll be approaching your weight loss from a much more healthy perspective and you're sure to make steady progress towards your goal.

Take care, and best of luck.
