Beans, as well as such gassy goods as cabbage, soybeans, peas and onions, are naturally sweetened with a family of sugars called oligosaccharides. These sugars are big, clumsy molecules -- too big to slip into your body through the lining of the small intestine. Normally enzymes in the small intestine would rush in and snap these molecules apart like Legos. But due to a gross oversight, an anti-oligosaccharide enzyme is not standard equipment in a human being.

So these complex sugars pass unmolested through the small intestine and enter the large intestine still bearing valuable nutrients. Unabashed at digging into leftovers, the less reputable bacteria among the 200 strains in your large-intestine start to chow down. Their population grows as they divide into new generations to take advantage of the bounty. And as they gulp in the big sugars, they let out gas. In essence, your gut accumulates millions of wee bacterial farts.

Here is a link to answer your question in more detail. It is because of the way the body breaks down beans. Other foods can cause this as well.

It has to do with the gas released when the bacteria in your stomach breaks down the sugars in the beans.

beans make u fart because u eat way to much of it

Actually, it's incomplete digestion of the beans. You can find out the true cause with your favorite search engine.

IDK, but buy one of those little "fart ladders".
Place it in the pot when cooking beans and the little farts will climb out.

Beans are high in fiber...most people get gas when fiber is suddenly increased....benos and other anti gas products help eliminate or reduce these effects.

The human body lacks a certain enzyme that breaks down the walls of the bean. The bean makes its way all the way to the 'bottom' of the intestine without getting broken down, so there is a plethora of bacteria that try to attack it at that time. More bacteria=more gas=more stink, because when they die they stink.
If we had this enzyme, then no problems. Beano contains that enzyme, so the bean gets broken down with no gases.

It is because they contain a sugar... I think it is raffinose (sp) that the body lacks the enzyme to break down.

Because the body can not break the chain it is passed in to the lower GI where it is fermented by bacteria. The gases produced from the fermentation such as CO2, methane, hydrogen sulfide and other thiols.

Beano and other compounds contain the missing enzyme and help break down the sugar in the stomach lessening the amount that is then fermented.

Beans, beans the magical fruit.
The more you eat, the more you toot.
The more you toot, the better you'll feel,
So eat your beans at every meal!

Maybe it's because we are allergic to them? I'm allergic to chocolate, but if I eat chocolate, I fart. (And they smell chocolatley)
