HELP! I have to lift 500 lbs to get a job...?!

Question: I'm an EMT so I lift quite a large amount of weight on a regular basis, but I have an interview for a job that I'm almost positive that I will get if I can past their lifting test. I have to lift a 500lb isolet (portable incubator) and I'm not so sure. I know the usual lift with your legs etc. I'm only 5'2 so that's to my disadvantage and I don't have time to weight train, but I've got to get this job I've got to do this. I need tips from ANYONE. PLEASE!!! I think I just have the lift it out of the truck, but it still scares me to death.

Side note, I have a neck and back injury that I am already lifting with, I've learned to do pretty well with, I get monthly epidurals, which usually help. Everything in my brain is screaming I'm screwed, but everything in my heart is screaming I can do this!

I find that very hard to believe. The ferno 35-IT (incubator transporter) with incubator on it, and all the equipment would weigh around 200 lbs, MAX. The regular 35A or 35P weighs around 75 lbs unloaded, not double that, as you say...

In any case, 500 is a totally unreasonable amount to expect two people to lift. That's the kind of weight that you'd need four or more people for...

I think you have it wrong. 500 pounds is very heavy and not many people can do it...even weight lifters. 200 pounds seems more likely.

Relax number 1. You have to believe you can do it. And regardless of your situation, I doubt it hinges on you lifting this isolet, regardless of what they are telling you. They aren't going to hurt you on purpose. Like you said use your legs, get in a smart position where you can get the most leverage. My ex girlfried use to move missles around for the air force planes, she's 5' 4". Girl Up!

Let them know your problems and restrictions, if you can't lift it in a test, you could hurt yourself on the job, denying the original injured patients the care they need.

Are your prospective employers aware of your back problems? If you are concealing your condition, you could be jeopardizing your benefits if you make it worse. You could be fired for lying on your application.

Very few people in the world can lift 500 pounds.

YIKES! =}
Lift with your legs!
Wear a back brace!!
Good luck!
I'm sure they will have someone to help you??
