Could a shot gun hurt a babies hearing?!

Question: When my daughter was 15 months. I took her with me to my grandfathers funeral. They had a 21 Gun Salute. When they fired the guns my daughter jumped and cried. She is now 23 months old and seem ok but I am still concerned about it. I am a first time mother. She responds when I call her name or if i make noise behind her she will look in the direction that the noise is coming from. Could this have hurt her hearing? Should I have her hearing checking? Thank you

It really depends on how close you were to the guns. Those military teams are trained to be so many feet from the guests for that reason. Also, they don't use shotguns.

If you were holding her and standing right next to them that would be a problem. Otherwise no.

How did it affect YOU? You don't mention any lasting effects. The fact that she jumped and cried shows she was scared. Perfectly normal.

It sounds from your description that she is okay. But if you want you can have her tested. At her age, most of the testing will consist of things you have already done.

yes, it could have. I would go and have her hearing checked, stat.

yes

yes.

take her to the doctors
so they can check her ears
thats a big mistake man :/

yes it can hurt anyones hearing

I would say yes. I would check it to be sure. She could have been scared only, but I'd check.

no, she'll be fine. babies ears are made the same ours are. it was loud, so she cried, but nothing should have happened.

yes it could harm her hearing and yes get it checked.

what kind of a question is that? why would you even have a shotgun near a baby! you hooligan!!!

Um a shotgun can destry our hearing as adults so amplify that by a thosuand for a baby

You just said she respond to when you call her..and she turn into the direction she hear noises...so why would you be concerned seems like she hear fine to me...

yes it can and it can also hurt an adults hearing

Um it probably wasnt a good idea to have her near those shotgun blasts...but it seems like she's ok now.

a shot gun could hurt anyones hearing

YES. It can and will. GOD Bless you.

yeah a gun shot can hurt any ones ears. if you're worried talk to her pediatrician about doing a hearing test

she should be alright is not any thing to worry about, you could get her hearing checked to make sure but i would think it would be alright

It could hurt her hearing, but since your daughter seems to be responding fine, I think she is okay. If a hearing test would give you peace of mind, then I think you should have it done.

As long as it wasn't over 120 Db then I don't think it harms your hearing, however, it may be different for babies (also you wont know how many Db it was)

Everyone is getting all "fired up" (if you'll pardon the expression). But I doubt that any lasting harm was done. She was probably just startled, and you probably didn't have a reason to predict this beforehand.

It's good that you've asked, and that you're concerned. But I think that everyone is rushing to judgment here.

a shotgun can hurt alot more then a baby's hearing.

don't shoot your babies

yes.
take her to the doctors.
there is a possibility something happned,
but then again nothiing could of happned.

of course! It can hurt anyone's hearing, but especially a baby who is still developing. Have her checked out... it should be part of her check ups anyways...but do it anyways just in case.

Yes, that could have. And just to be sure, I would get her hearing checked. (And I'm sorry about your Grandfather)

yeah my sister was pregnant and she got shot, the baby would jump in shock and start crying every time she heard a loud sound but after a year she was fine. the doctor said she would be fine.

What?

Wait until she about four years old that way her hearing can be tested much easy er

Yes, have it checked right away. If there is permanent damage you need to know. If a loud noise damages the ear, it can not be repaired. Keep your child and yourself away from loud noises. Like loud music, and sport activities. I have suffered for many years because my parents did not heed this advise.

Oh, by the way. Only a president or a heads of state is deserving of a 21 gun salute. Others can receive a 3 gun salute.

i would just to be on the safe side

Definetly get her hearing checked.... but I bet she is fine....that was a little risky though, and dont do it again!
