it took me til the 3rd month on chantix to stop completely. I tried the 7th day thing, no dice. So I just kept taking the pills and smoking. Eventually I'd light one up and just not have the desire or get the fix from it and put it out after a puff or 2. About halfway through the second month I stopped for 3 or so days, then started only smoking maybe half a pack on the weekends, then just stopped completely.
I still wanted to smoke just out of habit, but the nicotine craving was so small compared to without the pill it was easy. I'd give it a while and see how you do, I thought it was a waste after a week too. Good luck!

If you're smoking - the craving isn't going away - even with the Chantix.

You were supposed to stop smoking on the 7th day. Did you even try? It is not a miracle drug, you actually have to use some willpower also. Having said that, I started smoking again after 2.5 weeks. Not enough willpower.
Good luck

Did you read the warnings before taking the perscription? Chantix is not a sure fire thing- there are plenty of people it didnt do jack crap too in their 'clinical trials'.. be careful how ads are worded- their main goal is to get you to use their product- even if in it wasnt effective for most people who took it!

Best bet- talk to your Dr about it.

Cigaqrettes are not a nicotine addiction- but rather an emotional addiction. Chantix is only going to cover up the 'symptom' of your emotional stuff by making you not smoke (assuming it works). You need to get to the root of your emotional problem and why you smoke- then you will be able to stop thinking you 'need' cigarettes. (its the same thing for those who are obese and use food to comfort whats missing- or those who use alcohol or drugs etc etc) best of luck- i know it's not easy!

After the third day of the "Week 1 pack", i had no desire to smoke whatsoever. By the end of week one i still had half a pack of smokes that i threw away. So yea it worked for me. Haven't smoked since the first week of January. Rarely think about smoking when I'm at the bar with friends but that's about it. And some slight insomnia.

try another alternative for smoking. This sounds and looks a little funny but I sucked on a plastic spoon or sugar free peppermint sticks b/c I could hold them like a cigarette, tap off the pretend ashes, all the little habitual things. I successfully quit for a year.
In answer to your question, no, Chantix does not work for everybody. There may be a 1-800-QUIT LINE in your state. Sorry, not sure of the actual phone number...good luck to you, tough to quit but hang in there!

My neighbor across the street went through the same thing! He is on his second try. Last time he smoked after 10 days. This time he is using it with a nicotine patch and he is going on 30 days without smoking. I think that using two methods at one time like he is will help you.

I forgot to mention.... he says that daily walks help him a lot.

I am thinking about quitting myself which is why I asked him so many questions :)

Talk with your MD. Chantix may not be for you. The cravings should have subsided. How much are you smoking? Have you cut down any? Did you stop on day 7 or day 1?
