Why do steroids make you gain weight and is there any way to avoid it?!

Question: my doctor prescribed me a week of prednisone.

Answers: my doctor prescribed me a week of prednisone.

it does cause some swelling, but if you are on it for only a week, it shouldn't cause too much weight gain.

Because muscle weighs more than fat.

Way to avoid it, probably not.

Honestly with just a weeks worth I'd not worry about the weight gain.

gaining weight with steroids is not possible in a week. it works for those who are addict. only way to avoid is only the will power. Dr. also gave me an advice to take steroids but i left that all with my will power.

My daughter always swells up when she takes it. It is only on one side, which is weird. It is usually only taken for 7-10 days or so, then the swelling goes down.

One week of steroids should not make much difference to you but the common side effect is chip munk type cheeks but this disappears when you stop taking them. The other thing is that you tend to get the munchies. If you stick to your normal diet you should be fine.
