Can flu cause stiff neck?!

Question: My daughter has has a intestinal flu virus for the past 4 days. No vomiting. But she has had fever and diarrhea. No actual fever today, but the diarrhea continues. The one thing I'm concerned about now is that her neck is very stiff and sore. I know that a stiff, sore neck can be a sign of viral meningitis, so what else can you tell me that would help me decide what to do? There are 17 different strains of flu going around in our area. So could this just be another side affect of the flu instead of viral meningitis?

P.S. No constant headache - - - just sometimes really bad when she gets up from bed or the couch.

I'm sorry to hear that your daughter is ill. Meningitis presents with spots that dont fade when a glass tumbler is pressed against them, and you havent mentioned a rash.

A stiff neck is redolent of viral infection and her headaches. What is important that you keep her Electrolytes up because of the Diarrhea and because it has been for four days it might be advisable to see a doctor.

Good luck.

Yes it can cause a stiff neck and just old body aches. My advice: Tell your doctor to give her hycodan and she will be just fine. It's a miracle drug that everyone should have in their med. cabinet.

I was going to suggest meningitis too. I'm no Dr, but have heard that it's symptoms are like the flu and there is a stiff neck. I would just take her to the doctor to be sure.
Google search it and you will find many links for it. This one I've listed is just the main page where you can click on different topics.
Good luck hope she gets better soon:o)
