My Red cross rejected my request to donate two units of blood.. just because I&#!

Question: Is there really that mean B+ blood types in the USA? My Red cross center said there's an abundance of it.

Answers: Is there really that mean B+ blood types in the USA? My Red cross center said there's an abundance of it.

Type B+ is found in about 7.5% of the Caucasian population; it occurs in higher frequencies in Black and Oriental populations.

Most Red Cross blood banks will not allow any donor to give more than one unit at a time; our blood banks have a 56 day limit between donations for whole blood.

Apparently so. What they really like is O-.

Try back in a few weeks, and maybe they'll need it then.

That is very weird. I've been in the medical business for 40 years(laboratory) and have never heard of such a thing. Just doesn't make any sense. Even if they don't need your red cells due to "abundance," they certainly need the components like plasma and platelets.

Is it possible that you might have been deferred because they were too busy drawing donors with a more common blood type that might have been urgently needed? That is the only legitimate reason I can think of.

edit:

Double unit donations are becoming more and more common. It is possible that the Red Cross is not on this band wagon yet. But they should have still been willing to draw one unit.

Usually no blood bank would turn away donors....so they must have it in abundance....B+ is the predominant group among Asians and with so many of them in USA now they may really have an excess....give them your number and ask them to call if required.....do you know that in Saudi Arabia you will have to donate blood to get a driving license....
