Buy those patches. Don't get that stepped down stuff. Go with the full strength stuff. Later when you want to try stepping down, buy the full strength, and just cut it in half or thirds or whatever. It's less expensive that way. Get regular chewing gum (not nicorette if your on the patch), to occupy your mouth.
Lastly, if you use the patch, don't be so anxious to quit completely. You might be down to a quarter of a patch after a year. So what? Also, look on the web for these discount places to buy the patch in bulk. Save a lot of money. Remember again, if your on a piece of the patch for 2 years or whatever, it's better than smoking for 2 years? Most people go on the patch and try to step down like the instructs say. A month later they're back on the smokes. Seen it many times. Let's say you eventually get down to 1/3 of a full strength patch. You budget a little money. Say your there for the next three years? Still, better than smoking the next 3 years. My point, so you just transferred your addition from the smokes to the patch, it's still better. Don't be in such a hurry. Also, if you buy the stuff on the web from discounters, it won't cost you much more than the regular cig's. Good luck, but remember to take your time.

Lots of willpower, friends/family, support groups/quitting partner, and something else to do besides smoke. Try replacing a smoke for a piece of gum or a healthy snack bar.

You never should have started girlfriend

instead of smoking chew gum or something

I hear good things about Chantix

I stopped because I can kick habbits easy, so I just stopped wasting my money on cigarettes. Ummm, if its hard for you to quite habbits, I suggest you try the patch maybe? Or something else.

First, you have to have some kind of motivation, because If you really want to quit, you WILL quit, but if you don't care, your'e not gonna go anywhere.

well, try the patch or chew gum..........it will keep you occupied. You said your family smokes. Dont try to quit with them...it will be harder. My parents tried that and my mom said they were very mean to eachother. its easier to do it alone.

Hmm. This seems to work for me. Don't think about it, try to think about what you need to be done and what you like doing. Keep mind going is key, if you slow down, or break, your going to think.. im bored i want to smoke.. Or something similar to that.

Don't buy any. Tell everyone else you're quitting. Eventually they'll start supporting you in it because they'll get tired of you bumming off of them. Start chewing on gum or ice.. Carry a pen... Chew on that and hold it like a cigarette. I liked chewing on straws.. They helped. Good luck!

sorry, but from the first puff you are addicted because some chemicals make your brain want to have more.

i would say work out to quit

i know someone who would drink a can of pepsi when she felt like smoking. she was able to quit that way

i doubt anyone wants u to smoke...it shortens ur life and does terrible thingS. get some of that fancy gum that helps and eventually u'll stop...do whatever u can! go to a drugstore and ask for some suggestions to...GOOD LUCK

you just quit. I did it and it worked. But the reason it did is because I couldnt find any reasons to smoke anymore : relieving stress by working out or drinking, numb throat after smoking, I was getting tired of it.

Find no more reasons for you to smoke and you will stop.
As long as you truly enjoy smoking you wont stop

first dont listen to the first dude
2nd rehab
3rd patches
4th go to those smoking meetings
5th u will have ugly yellow teeth and be wrinkly at an early age
so quit

Drink a glass full of water when u feel like smoking

I will say this...it is HARD to stop smoking. I use to smoke but I quit because my daughters asked me to. They told me they wanted me to live a healthy life as much as possible. So that was my will power....for them...and myself. I did everything. I chewed gum, ate sunflower seeds, had a stress ball to keep my hands busy, even stayed away from ppl that smoked! Now after almost a year I hate the smell of smoke and it looks very unattractive to me. Its hard but if you try hard....you can do it I think. Good luck!

start saying I DON'T smoke! set a day and quit, or You could break the law and get put in jail,,,,COME ON SHOW A LITTLE BACKBONE AND STOP SMOKING!!!!!

It won't be easy if you can't temporarily separate yourself from other smokers. I used the patch with little trouble. The biggest challenge is to decide to quit...wanting to isn't enough. If you fall off the wagon, keep trying. Best of luck!

If you want to quit smoking, you must eliminate the source of your addiction. You may be thinking, "cold turkey?" Not at all. As a matter of fact, I mean that you must find your trigger. If it's stress, start substituting your methods of dealing with stress. Get massages from a friend, get some exercise, watch a movie, read a book, whatever else you may be able to do to unwind. Once you learn how to deal with the trigger, you will feel less dependent upon nicotine to get you through the day.

i quit smoking for a year all by my self no pills or gum or patches just will power but then i started smoking again
but i think you really just need to want it and put your mind to it you can do it everytime you want to have a cig tell your self and and do something else instead chew gum watch tv read go for a walk organize something

ROFL...yes it is. Just put it down and grow some will power. Find an alternative. Like drinking water. It's not going to be easy. You knew that when you picked up the first cigerette you smoked. Everyone knows that cigerettes are addictive. You're not going to feel well. It's call withdrawal. Only a real comittment by you is going to work. And if you've tried everything, you aren't comitting to quitting because you keep picking them back up.

Its kind of like a person that wants to loose weight. They talk about how unhappy they are with their body image, but they refuse to exercise. And they stuff their face all the time. But they've tried everything. No they haven't. A one day break from a bad habit...a one week break from that same bad habit is not a try. It's a passing thought that you quit on before you get anywhere.

If you really want to quit...make the decision and accept that its not going to be easy and that you're going to have to go through a rough spot to escape it.

You should talk to your family and ask that they not smoke around you. Try to get someone to quit with you, for support as you both go through the process together. It will take time. There are numerous webbased support groups for quitting. Check out quitnet.com for tips and support. Best of luck! It's one of the hardest things to do.

OK, what you need to do is at least stop smoking for 21 days. I know this sounds a little weird, but it's true. If you do something for 21 days consecutively you will gain a habit. If you can do something that will get your mind off of smoking. and good luck

what do u smoke?

read Alan Carrs how to stop smoking for woman. I Quit a 10 year habit after only reading half the book. Stop cold turkey and never ever felt like a ciggy since

This may sound strange but don't quit. Well not right now. Smoking is a lifestyle thing, a stress thing, an orally fixated thing. If you have a lot of stress like it sounds like you do then fix that first. Make the changes in your life that will allow you the chance to quit. if you don't you will use the stress as a reason to light up again. Look deeper as to why you light up every time and try to find a solution to that so there is no excuses. I smoke about 1/2 pack a day and don't see me quiting because I like it. we all die, and at least I have an idea why I am going to die. If you want to quit good luck.

I quit with Chantix.
My boyfriend's best friend died of lung cancer. A year later, my boyfriend quit smoking, and started trying to be "healthier"..... overall.....
I still smoked a lot.... like 3 packs a day a lot......
When he quit, he smoked less than me, but not by much. I wasn't ready to stop when he did, so for another year, I still smoked. Maybe a little less than 3 packs, but not by much.
Over the year he had quit, and I was still smoking, he kept looking at me like he was sooooooo sad... like he thought I was gonna die too..... And he may have been right, but to be honest, I still had no personal desire to quit.
I saw the ads for Chantix, and talked to my doctor about it. He gave me the prescription, and eventually, it worked. I was on the second month of taking it before I noticed a drop in my smoking, but at the end of the 3 month prescription, I had quit.
That was the first week of January, 2008. I haven't smoked since, and I have to say that I didn't really think it would work.
I have to give my vote to Chantix.
I know it works for some, and not for others.... but as a 3-pack-a-day-smoker..... I have to say it worked well for me!
Good Luck!

just keep trying. or try to cutback.
yeah, it's not easy. and its stupid when people say, oh just stop. just dont pick it up, dont light it. blahblahblah.

I had smoked for 25 years was hard like you said always around people that did smoke. Started getting shortness in breath went to a doctor and he checked me out and said it could be smoking related. I also told him i would like to quit, He told me i will never put them down and i was going to grow old and wrinkled caring a oxygen bottle around every where i go. The first old man i seen it hit me. and that was some 12 years ago and no urges

Do cocaine instead.
