Do Doctors/Dentists become insensitive to pain after a while?!

Question: Whenever I tell my doctor that something hurts when he puts a lot of pressure on it, he says hmmm or sounds sympathetic, but then he touches it more and more. I keep telling him it hurts, but it takes like 5 more times for him to get the message.

My dentist is way worse. He asks me if my tooth is sensitive and i say yes, and he continues to drill at least three times before he decides to numb me. Sometimes he laughs and says I'm just scared. But actually, it really does hurt!

Are these just my doctor and dentist? I was thinking since they're dealing with pain so much, maybe after a while it doesnt bother them as much...but I dont know. Anyone know what's up?

I think it depends on the doctor. I have one doctor who is a jerk and doesn't believe anything I say and another doctor who listens and is very helpful. My dentist is great too. She always makes sure I'm comfortable.

I've had many doctors and every one is different in how they react to what you tell them. You should find doctors that take care of you and don't laugh at you. It may take a while but you deserve to be treated better than this.

I do think that over time they do become de-sensitized. After dealing with it day in and day out. Especially the doctors who only practice medicine because it makes them a lot of money. It would be nice if they treated each patient as an individual with individual pain and their own unique needs, but I rarely see that happening.

I do understand, though, that maybe in order to correctly diagnose something they may have to cause some discomfort, sometimes.
