How much vitamin C can I take?!

Question: Can I take 2000 mg?

Answers: Can I take 2000 mg?

I think you should take a tab at every meal

you'll pee out the excess, hehehe, pee, lol

You can take as much as you like. Vitamin C is one of the great ones that the body just flushes out the excess that it can't use.

I heard that question asked on a radio program one day. The reply was that you can take as much as you like. Monkeys eat fruit all day and consume thousands of mgs of C.
Look how much energy they have.
I don't think it will enable you to climb trees any better though.

The LD50 (the dose that will kill 50% of a population) in rats is generally accepted to be 11.9 grams per kilogram of body weight when taken orally. The LD50 in humans, of course, might be different.

But if you weigh 60 kg, you could probably take 720,000 mg of vitamin C and still have a 50/50 chance of survival. That's 1.5 pounds of pure vitamin C. A whole sack full.

I regularly take 8 or 10,000 mg spread out over the day when I'm feeling sick.

200 to 500 mg per day is all you need.
While ill however your body will use more of it. At the first sign of catching a cold or such, take a few thousand mg. While ill you can take about 10,000 per day, in installments, 2000 at a time for example.

Yes, I used to take that much a day. Only problem is when I stopped taking all that C. I got one of the worst colds I ever had. The cold may or may not have been connected to the C, it just made me think the two were connected.

Taking 1,000 mg of vitamin C twice or even three times a day is quite safe.

The Vitamin C Foundation actually recommends 3 gm (3,000 mg) per day but most health professionals recommend a lot less.

The late Dr Linus Pauling, who was awarded two Nobel prizes for contributions to health and medicine, actually recommended 5 gm a day but he was perhaps a bit obsessed with vitamin C.
