Ear crackling is common with a cold. It's just air pressure inside the ear canal.

Ear infections, however, bring ear pain and often a clogged ear (feels like you have water in it).

the second part, I'm sure you have gone swimming before and got water in your nose, if so you probably also remember that it tended to clog up your ears as well

Eh, I think that's normal. Even when you don't have a cold. I just swallowed, and my ear crackled a little and I'm not sick.

If it's a lot or it hurts, then see your doctor.

i think ear infection, make an appointment wit your doctor

Your Eustachian tubes are probably clogged up. They help maintain the pressure on the inside of your eardrum. Once your cold clears this should also. It can be very annoying, but not dangerous. Drink plenty of water. If they don't go to an ENT doc. They may put you on something like Flomax. One technique that I don't recommend, but I've seen it worked. Plug your nose with your fingers and breath out to increase the pressure in your sinus---can cause some damage at times
