Answers: For a person with Alzheimers'----

Thanks in Advance!

It depends on the stage of Alzheimers.

I work in a retirement facility and we offer assisted living and do have some residents who require almost total care like they would get in a nursing home.

We have had people in the later stages of Alzheimers who had to go and live in a nursing home as they offer a locked ward, we do not. In the later stages some people tend to wander so need to be in an environment that prevents this.
As well sometimes they get to the point where they are frightened and don't know who they are or people around them. This is scarey for them and the other residents so a nursing home sometimes becomes necessary.
In the earlier stages of Alzheimers when the person is pleasantly confused they are managable in a less restricted home. I have one lady in my home right now who some nights thinks I am her mother. This works out well, as she tends to sleep in her chair. So on these nights I will say to her Yes dear, now let me tuck you into bed and she gets a good nights sleep in her bed. I have another lady who will come to me and ask why her father has not gotten home yet(she is 93). I tell her his train probably has been delayed but when I see him I will tell him she is waiting for him. This satisfies her and she goes back to bed. It may seem that I am lying to these people but it is not to me. In their minds what they are thinking/saying is very real so I am merely going along with their reality which is comforting to them.
Alzheimers can be a horrible disease but always remember the person you love is still there inside but now has many dimensions which may alter them into someone you don't know at times.

Bless you both and all the Best....XXXXXX

I'm a cna and I don't believe people with alzheimers should be living alone for any lenght of time. And assisted living means their alone alot of the time they need constant care.
